An important distinction

Which qualification is right for me?

These terms are sometimes used interchangeably, but they mean very different things. Understanding the difference will help you choose the right route.

PGCE

A Postgraduate Certificate in Education — a postgraduate teaching qualification. PGCE Education and PGCE Early Years do not directly award QTS.

iQTS

An international teaching qualification route offered by Sunderland, designed for teachers working outside England and assessed against international teacher standards.

QTS

Qualified Teacher Status — the official English teaching qualification, required to teach in most state-maintained schools in England.

MA

A Master of Arts — a master's-level academic qualification that deepens professional knowledge and research skills. It does not confer QTS.
